The history of the formation and development of the Comorian Franc (KMF)

Before the introduction of the Comorian Franc, the Comoros archipelago used the CFA Franc from the French colonial territories in Africa. During this period, French currency was widely circulated on the islands of Comoros.

In 1925, the Comoros Franc was introduced for the first time alongside the CFA Franc. After Comoros gained autonomy from France in 1975, the Comorian Franc became the official currency of the country, completely replacing the CFA Franc.

When it was established, the Comorian Franc was pegged to the French Franc: 1 French Franc = 50 KMF.

After France joined the Eurozone in 1999, the Comorian Franc was adjusted to a fixed exchange rate with the Euro: 1 EUR = 491.96775 KMF. KMF.

Currently, the Comorian Franc remains the official currency of the Union of the Comoros, primarily used in the daily transactions of the people.
